Running Bad

I'm running bad live, and it sucks.

Must be somewhere around 5k under EV this month live.

My favorite beat was at 5/5plo last night: Straddled to $10 on the button, 3 limps I make it $50 with Ac 3c 5d 7d. All limpers call (pot $200).

Flop: 4c 6c Qs.

I get it in with another player expecting to have a 65/35 edge over his 2p/set, until he flips up 3s 5c 8c 9s, for a weaker flush draw, weaker str8 draw, and can't even beat my Ace high.

Turn 9d... River Qd. He hits the offsuit 9 and i miss 39 outs.

oh well.

Back from Vegas

Got back in from Vegas last night, and went right out to a live game in ATL. Damn I'm such a degen.

I'll post a big trip report sometime in the near future, but ended up winning about $3500 in poker in vegas, so after expenses and table games and whatnot, came home w/ about 2k more than I left with.

Had the biggest stack in the Bellagio at 5/10nl 2 straight days, and held a 5k chip in my hand for about 1 minute. More to come...

Goal for the month was 10k, and we're off to a solid start.

Swingin'

Thursday: 50nl live, -$1200 (not a typo :O )
Saturday: 500nl/plo8 live, $-600 at midnight, +$1600 at 8am
Monday: 200nl live, +$400

Swings have been kinda brutal, but fun. The 500plo8 game is just so profitable for me right now, especially when we're sitting 1k+ deep, and my opponents are repotting rivers on me w/ only 1/4 of the pot. This happened at least 3 times.

So, even though I'm 20BI under EV online this month, it's still on pace to be my best month ever with live + bonuses. Hopefully, I can turn the month online around and grind out a few buy-ins before Vegas.

The 50nl live game was just hilarious. About $400 of the loss came in props, and w/ a max buy-in of $60, I had to do some work to lose $800 in the game. Surprisingly enough, no more than 3 of those ~13 buy-ins were tilted away.

Ok, enough poker for now. Headed up to Lake Lanier for a relaxing Father's Day on the boat, which was a great break from the grind. Unfortunately I was coming off a 2 day bender, and a 10 hour session so I was tired for most of the day, but still had some fun.

A bunch of good movies either just came out, or are coming out this week, so hopefully I can catch Year One, and Transformers 2 by the time I leave for Vegas on July 1st. Maybe I'll see the Hangover for the 3rd time, as it just keeps getting better.

Rolling Up the Stake, Headed to Vegas

The last few days have been pretty interesting. I'm reading some great stuff in Elements of Poker, and monkey tilt has vanished for a short while. Headed out to Vegas w/ some FR guys and a friend from home July 1 - 7, so we've been playing some live games around ATL every night trying to build up some $$$ to bring out. The week has been going allright, as I'm up a little over $1k in the last 3 nights running ok, but my buddy is up about $2k in that period (Nate: you are a huge nit that runs like the sun), so he's pretty pumped.

Last night was a 500nl mixed game w/ NLHE, PLO, and PLO8. Played for about 10 hours and probably ran about 1k under EV, yet still booked a $600 win. Can't say enough how easy these games are, just wish I could hold vs. 7 high naked flush draws in 1k pots in PLO.

Saw The Hangover on Tuesday, and it's definitely the best movie I've seen this year. Liked it so much, I caught it again after a live game the next night, and it was just as good the second time. Hoping to recreate some of the hilarity when we're out in Vegas in 2 weeks.

Trying to get not-on-tilt

Feeling good, playing good. Reading Tommy Angelo's Elements of Poker to hopefully cure the insano tilt I have a habit of going on when I play live (down ~7k live this year in games where I monkey tilting off stacks instead of quitting).

However, online game feels good, even though I'm running 15BI under in EV this month, plus a bunch of other big hands where the stacks were going in no matter what, before villain hits his river 2 outer.

Gave 40 tabling a try, and didn't have too many problems on stars, but FTP was giving me fits as they give you a lot less time. Gonna have to get FTSC it looks like, but it'll be worth it.

Also, I'm currently in first place in my tennis league for the summer, playing every match hungover. Here's to keeping that streak alive.

Just got back from a live game tonight where I witnessed some bad play (as usual) and some hilarity. Blinds are 1/2 and the button straddles to 6. A few calls and a minraise to 12, before the button reraises to 55. Folds around to the minraiser who has about $40 back and he's taking his sweet time deciding what to do. BTN then turns up his AJo for some reason, and the $40 stack is still sitting there pondering. After a few minutes I turn to him and say "dude, if u can beat AJ just put your god damn money in already." 30 seconds later he calls w/ AQs and wins. The sad part is he was not intentionally slowrolling or messing with the button, they players in these games are just a little (understatement of the century) braindead.

June's been weird

This has been a pretty weird month so far... The June instant $$$ bonuses on stars got me off to a real nice start, and then I quickly hit a live/online heater and was up about 5.5k on June 5th. Played in a 5/10/25 live game, which was way over-raked, but still pretty beatable due to the play. Most people bought in for $500, so it was pretty much a table of shorties (who all played about 50/10). Grinded up to about $1800 or so from my orignial $1k buy-in, when the following hand came up...

Villain had just reloaded to $2k, after I limp re-raised all in after he made a tiny raise from the BB and got 4 callers, so he was steaming a bit and clearly coming after me. I limp Jc 8c on the button after 3 limpers, villain makes it $90 from BB. I am the only caller. Flop Qc 6c 3s. I call villains $100 bet. Turn is the 4c giving me the flush. Villain leads for $100 again, I raise to $385, and villain calls very quickly. River bricks, and villain checks to me. I think for a good minute or so, before sliding out a ton of chips for a bet of $1050 (rack of $5 reds, 2 stacks of $10 whites, stack of $5 reds, and 2 green $25's on top). Villain tanks for about 5 minutes, calls, and mucks. Definitely the biggest pot of my life at ~$3200.

After that though, the month went a bit downhill. Started running bad online, and went on a $2k downswing over 2 days all at 100nl/200nl. There was definitely a good amount of tilt though, so need to fix that. I just ordered some psychology books relating to poker, so hopefully something will click in that department.

2 nights ago, a friend and I went to a live 200nl game, but everyone was actually somewhat deep, so I bought in $500. Ran over the table and was up about $300, when I lose a big 3b pot w/ KK and the Ks on an AA23 board with 3 spades. For some reason this tilted me, and I started playing pretty terribly. Tried to make a big move on my friend who ended up calling off 200bb's with TPWK after I crai his flop bet and a flat call behind. Kinda sick, but this just tilted me more, so I started straddling to $20 every hand and mostly open shoving. Finally realized that throwing away money wasn't the best idea, so I tried to play straight with my last $250 (was in for $1300 at this point). Ended up playing HU for a while against a maniac, and I stacked him in a $1600 pot when I picked up AA and he couldn't get away from TP. So, ended the night down about $500.

Since then things have been pretty good. Had my first session on FTP and made a few BI, and made a few hundred at 5/5 live last night. Hopefully can keep the tilt monkey away for the rest of the month, and made a decent chunk of change.

Planning another Vegas trip July 1st - July 7th, so anybody that wants to go out let me know. Right now it's probably me, goshmr5, and Greg, but I'm sure we'll meet up with a ton of people out there.

Here's some pics from the first few days of June:

My stack at the 5/10/25 game after the 3k+ pot.

Just asking to get robbed I guess.

Friend of mine fell into a hole after a successful night of drinking.

Also, now 2-0 in my tennis league, so hopefully can keep on rolling there.

Peace,

Keep forgetting about this thing

Ok, haven't updated in a long time again. Completely forgot about it actually, then had someone mention my blog, so I figured I'd give another update.

May went allright, put in about 40k hands at 100nl at just over 3ptbb, which I'm pretty happy with. I ran a few BI over equity, but also had a 15k hand stretch where I played in a real bad state and lost about 15 buy-ins so that evens it out. Ended up making around 3k between online/live, which sucks but isn't terrible considering i'm taking 4 summer classes.

June should be a ton of fun. While I probably can't make it out to the WSOP due to classes, I'm buying a few % of some full ringers from 2p2, so hopefully someone can make a deep run. I also just found out that GT30 from 2p2 used to run the homegame which I played in a lot at Georgia Tech. Small world.

A few of us (me, Greg, ForGlory, and noidea) are probably heading up to Turning stone at the end of the month for some degeneracy, so if anyone reading this is in the NY area, give one of us a shout. That's about it for poker. I'm up 2.6k on the month without playing a hand (thanks Stars instant bonuses), so the winrate is pretty solid so far.

Also, my K-Swiss singles league started last Saturday. For any of you tennis fans, I'm playing at the 5.0 level which is pretty competitive, and is the level right below players who played collegiate tennis. In my first match, I popped both of my rackets' strings by the end of the first game of the 1st set and had to borrow a racket from my opponent. Kinda embarrassing, but then I beat this guy with his own racket, so he can't have been too happy. I also learned that playing a tennis match in 90+ degree heat while hungover and completely out of shape is a great way to get sick, which I did during the 2nd set.

That's about it, I'll be bluelining if anyone needs me.
